Board Meetings

All meetings will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Unity Point Library unless otherwise specified. Executive Sessions, if needed, will be held in the Unity Point Library.

Unity Point Special Board Meeting

In order to be good stewards in the community to minimize large group gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public Board of Education Meeting will be broadcast online and accessible for listening via phone.

Members of the public will be allowed to meet in-person during the board meeting, however, the District will ensure that all current health and safety guidance and District policy is followed.

Persons who do not plan to attend the meeting in person and wish to make a public comment can do so by submitting their public comments ahead of the meeting to Dr. Lori James-Gross, Superintendent, via e-mail at ljgross@up140.org with the subject “Public Comments for 11/14/23 Regular Board Meeting.” These submitted comments will be read aloud during the meeting in accordance with Board Policy.

The broadcast will begin around 5:50 p.m. ahead of the regular meeting time of 6:00 p.m., to allow everyone who may wish to join time to work out any technical difficulties. The Board of Education will end the broadcast after we have officially adjourned the meeting.

Unity Point #140 Board of Education

Board Structure and Process

The Unity Point School Board is comprised of seven elected members which must reside in the district. Members are elected for four-year terms. School board members have authority only when the board meets in official session and a quorum is present. The board is responsible for setting policy and meeting requirements set by the Illinois School Code and State Board of Education Rules. All school board meetings are conducted in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order, Revised. All school board meetings, work sessions and committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the law with the exception of Executive Sessions. The board, the superintendent, the school board attorney and appropriate staff members may meet to discuss bargaining agreements and pending litigation. The superintendent is appointed by the school board and has administrative authority for the direction and operation of the school system under policies adopted by the school board.
