Unity Point Board Meeting 03-19-2020
IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding the Unity Point Board of Education Meeting scheduled for 6pm on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

The Unity Point Board of Education will be conducting our upcoming regular Board Meeting in a different format than normal due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In order to be good stewards in the community to minimize group gatherings and in accordance with the Governor's Executive Order #7, Section 6, the public participation for our meeting will not be in person but instead will be available both online and via phone in order for the public to have a means to both observe and comment during our meeting. Also, as this continues to be a very fluid situation, our Board Members may also be virtually present as opposed to physically present during the meeting.

The virtual Zoom "meeting room" will open at 5:40pm ahead of the Board Meeting to allow everyone who may wish to join time to work out any technical difficulties. The meeting itself will start at the regular time of 6:00pm.

We will be following our regular published agenda for this meeting in which we plan to hold an Executive Session. During that portion of the meeting, the meeting audio will be muted, but the virtual Zoom meeting will remain active and connected. Once the Executive Session is complete, the audio will be unmuted and the regular Board Meeting audio will resume. We will end the Zoom meeting after we have officially adjourned the meeting.

While public comment will still be available during a portion of the meeting, if you want to submit any public comments ahead of the meeting, they will be read aloud during the meeting. Please submit those public comments to Dr. Lori-James Gross, Superintendent, at with the subject "Public Comments for 3/19/20 Board Meeting".

Board Structure and Process
The Unity Point School Board is comprised of seven elected members which must reside in the district. Members are elected for four-year terms. School board members have authority only when the board meets in official session and a quorum is present. The board is responsible for setting policy and meeting requirements set by the Illinois School Code and State Board of Education Rules. All school board meetings are conducted in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order, Revised.

All school board meetings, work sessions and committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the law with the exception of Executive Sessions. The board, the superintendent, the school board attorney and appropriate staff members may meet to discuss bargaining agreements and pending litigation.

The superintendent is appointed by the school board and has administrative authority for the direction and operation of the school system under policies adopted by the school board.
