As we begin to make way for a new school year, our teachers/staff are preparing for the return of our many Unity Point students/families.   It is our mission to create a partnership with every family and student within the District.  Therefore, Unity Point will continue to engage families in Individualized Student Success Plan(ISSP) meetings next week.   An ISSP is an opportunity for every family/child to express and understand their unique needs and abilities. We believe that by developing success plans, we are better equipped to facilitate the individual student's interests, goals, and needs for tailored support to thrive within the educational setting.

Teachers will begin scheduling ISSP meetings during our Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, August 10from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.   Individualized Student Success Plan meetings will be scheduled for August 11 (8:15 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.) and August 12 (12:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.). Please come prepared to sign-up for a time that will work best for you and your child.   If you are unable to attend the Back-to-School Night event, your child's teacher will contact you to set up a time for an initial meeting.   It is essential that the family and child be present for the ISSP meeting.

Some may ask:  Why does Unity Point engage in Individualized Student Success Planning?  Our ***WHY ***encompasses the belief that ALL students should have a voice and choice in their education. Equity and access are of equal importance as students navigate through their educational journey. We believe students should be equipped with a strong understanding of their strengths and challenges in order to successfully advocate for themselves beyond the walls of Unity Point School. Lastly, our  most impactful WHY is the strong relationship forged between the teacher/Advisor, the parent, and the student. The relationships that are built from year-to-year are essential to the success of ALL students.

We look forward to meeting each of you next week, as we begin our partnership toward building a plan of success for EVERY student at Unity Point School.

Yours in Education,

Leslie Varble
