Welcome to the Reading Room for 1st Grade - 8th Grade! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you some information on our reading program. I collaborate with all teachers in Grades 1, Multiage, 4th, 5\/6th, and Junior High during Language Arts instruction each day. Small groups of students review with me each day for supplemental reading instruction. This year shall be different than in the past, but I have faith in my students and I believe in their ability to learn. <\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Lori Lee Spillman and let me tell you a bit about myself. I have lived in Carbondale for 41 years. I have a Master\u2019s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Reading and Language Development from SIU-C. I feel fortunate to dearly love my job<\/u> as it is a source of great joy and fulfillment for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

My teaching philosophy is to give my very all to all of my students the tools and knowledge the need to not be just successful in school, but in life. To do this, I will differentiate instruction to meet needs of each student. I want my classroom to resemble that of a close-knit community. I want each child to feel safe & comfortable enough to encourage one another to do their very best and never be scared of making a mistake. My goal is to show them that my room is a \u201csafe\u201d room and that we all make mistakes but we always keep trying. With this attitude and philosophy, I expect success for each student, and I will do whatever it takes for them to be successful both in, and out of the classroom. \n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In the Reading Room we have only two rules:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

1. Be Nice
2. Follow Directions<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>

<\/span><\/b><\/p>

I want you to be aware that your child will come home on several occasions stating, \u201cI worked with Mrs. Spillman today!\u201d I look forward to working with all of your children as they are all \u201cmy\u201d children as well. In addition I hope to have the opportunity to meet as many of my families as possible. My door is always open.<\/span><\/font><\/p><\/div>
